This takes a big anticipatory, pregnant "whew": the news we all knew

Everybody knows that we won the Olympics in Athens. Just want to take a glance back at the news.

For four years, I have been mildly upset with USAToday for the amount of effort they forced me to give to save copies of their Internet Olympic photos: it took all my geekiness and just plain resolve to save them. (Yes, I additionally daily did collect the newsprint supplement. Still have them; may scan some.) But now I'm happy that the paper was such an image surfing bane: this was the news we all "saw". Here is the media's proof that they reported the objective news.

the '04 sendoff from the US Nationals

My pause has taken me into some exciting directions, best expressed by one of the community's, if not the area's, most renown mathematicians. In undergrad at Texas Southern, I took several mathematics courses from Professor Wiley, including abstract algebra ("Including some English courses, too" a voice in my inner being would chime if I leave this phrase dangling.) Professor Wiley would be at the board, 'into it': "This is good stuff! Good stuff!" I've got some good stuff (and even better direction (directions?)), starting here . . ..
